Hilke MacIntyre is a German-born artist residing near St Andrews, Scotland, renowned for her distinctive work in ceramics, linocuts, and paintings. Her artistic style is characterised by simplified figurative forms, bold shapes, and vibrant colours, often drawing inspiration from nature, animals, and everyday life. MacIntyre's creations reflect influences from primitive art, early 20th-century movements, and contemporary design, resulting in pieces that are both modern and timeless.
After studying architecture at the College for Art & Design in Kiel, Germany, MacIntyre worked in the architectural field before relocating to Scotland in 1995 to focus on her art. Her ceramic reliefs are meticulously crafted in limited editions, each piece hand-glazed and fired to achieve unique textures and finishes. Similarly, her linocuts are printed using high-quality inks on fine papers, showcasing her commitment to traditional printmaking techniques.
MacIntyre's work has been exhibited extensively throughout the UK, including selections for the annual show at the Royal Scottish Academy. Her pieces are featured in various galleries, such as Gallery Q in Dundee and the Bircham Gallery in Holt. Through her art, MacIntyre offers a vibrant and whimsical perspective on the world, inviting viewers to engage with the simplicity and beauty of her subjects.
