Trevor Price

Trevor Price, a distinguished printmaker renowned for his finely detailed drypoint and engraved relief prints, as well as large-scale woodcuts, continues to push the boundaries of printmaking. Armed with chisels, blades, and power tools, Trevor carves and engraves woodblocks and polycarbonate sheets, infusing each surface with a depth of texture and emotion.

In his most recent works, Trevor's dedication to handmade and hand-printed pieces shines through. Utilising a delicate process involving a 2mm polycarbonate sheet, he carves and scrapes the plate with a drypoint needle and a dremel, a technique both time-consuming and unforgiving. Once ink is meticulously rolled over the surface, the plate is pressed with damp paper, resulting in prints that invite viewers to lose themselves in the intricate mark-making and abstract forms. From a distance, Trevor's prints reveal highly representational compositions, almost resembling sepia-toned photographs, while up close, viewers are drawn into a world of intricate details and captivating abstractions. Some pieces are further enhanced with stained paper, evoking a sense of antiquity and nostalgia.

Born in 1966, Trevor's career includes being elected as a member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers in 1994, where he later served as Vice President from 2013 to 2018. His work is celebrated in esteemed collections worldwide, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, and the Guangdong Museum of Art in China, among others. Trevor's accolades include multiple national printmaking awards. In 2020, he undertook a significant commission by China's National Academy of Painting.

Splitting his time between a studio near Tower Bridge in London and the vibrant artist community of St. Ives in Cornwall, Price's artistic vision is informed by the juxtaposition of urban dynamism and coastal tranquility. Beyond his artistic pursuits, Price's commitment to community shines through as a qualified lifeguard, actively involved in coaching children at the St. Ives Surf Life Saving Club.
