Shimara Carlow

Shimara Carlow is a British jewellery designer whose work is deeply inspired by the natural world. Born in 1979 in West Cork, Southern Ireland, she spent her childhood collecting shells, stones, mermaid's purses, feathers, and seed pods along the seashore. These treasures have profoundly influenced her designs.

In 2001, Shimara earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Jewellery and Silversmithing from the Glasgow School of Art. She then undertook a two-year residency at the P&O Makower Trust Workshops at Bishopsland, Oxfordshire. After establishing her career in London, she moved to Melbourne, Australia, in 2008, where she continues to create her jewellery and silverware from her garden studio.

Shimara's jewellery collections include "Acorn Cup," featuring clusters of individual acorn cup units assembled into long articulated chains; "Honesty," with whitened and reticulated silver ovals resembling honesty leaves; and "Wrap," inspired by birds' nests and natural structures, using hammered and textured wire.
