Sarah Tyssen is a textile designer based in Surrey, specialising in woven scarves and blankets. She begins her creative process on a 16-shaft Louet Megado dobby loom in her workshop, hand-weaving metres of fabric to refine weave constructions and colourways for her final designs.
After finalising her designs, Sarah calculates yarn quantities and oversees the dyeing process. She then collaborates closely with a Yorkshire mill, providing detailed specifications to produce small, limited editions of her designs on mechanised looms. This partnership allows her to focus on the aspects of weaving she enjoys mostdesigning and experimenting with colour interactionswhile ensuring the finished products match the quality of her handwoven samples.
Sarah's passion for colour and the interplay of hues in weaving has been a lifelong pursuit. She draws inspiration from her surroundings, allowing her designs to evolve organically as she experiments with different warp setups and colour combinations. To minimise waste, she repurposes her handwoven sample pieces into hot water bottle covers, lavender bags, and needle cases, embodying a sustainable approach to her craft.
