Elizabeth Welch

Elizabeth Welch is a British glass artist known for her vibrant, handcrafted sculptures that capture the whimsical essence of the natural world. After graduating with a BA Honours in Ceramics and Glass in 2009, she honed her skills in a Hot-glass Techniques course at Bournemouth and Poole College. Elizabeth now works from her studio in Angmering, West Sussex, where she designs and crafts unique flame-worked and hand-blown glass pieces.

Her work, inspired by nature, brings together elegant colours and distinct characters in each sculpture. Using reference photos from research trips and initial sketches, she shapes her creations with an oxygen-propane torch and a few tools, working with coloured borosilicate glass, a durable glass similar to Pyrex.

Elizabeth has developed a recognisable style that combines playfulness with elegance, creating contemporary, flame-worked glass sculptures that reflect the beauty and diversity of the animal world. Each piece is a celebration of nature's quirks and charm, carefully crafted to capture the unique character of every creature she imagines.
