Lyndsay Fairley

Lyndsay Fairley is a Scottish jewellery designer celebrated for her unique, contemporary pieces that capture the transient beauty of the Scottish coast. Her 'Na Mara' collection, meaning 'of the sea' in Gaelic, draws inspiration from the ephemeral compositions of discarded knotted rope, rusted iron scraps, and decaying seaweed washed up on Scottish beaches.

Lyndsay's creative process begins with drawing, using mixed media to develop abstract impressions from the coastal landscape. This approach informs the creation of tactile jewellery pieces, each varying with its own distinct pattern or shape. The use of both precious and non-precious metals, such as copper and silver, contrasts with the stark black of enamel or patinated metal, creating patterns reminiscent of seaweed on the sand.

Based in Edinburgh, Lyndsay continues to explore Scottish beaches, including Cramond, Elie, and Cromarty, as sources of inspiration for her work.
